David Brunning a.k.a. TheKidBelo
As every graffiti artist, David Brunning (known as the alias TheKidBelo) started out "tagging" trains illegally and has transitioned into his artworks displayed in various galleries and has been commissioned to paint numerous murals such as the East Village within the city.
Brunning has been involved in numerous projects to promote positive social change. One of his projects, More or Less, involved Brunning wearing the same outfit everyday for a year in order to simplify his life and make a statement. It was an initiative to create awareness for the homeless or lower-income individuals who have no option but to wear the same thing everyday.
Before the More or Less project, Brunning decided to simplify his mind, emotions, and relationships by living clean. No alcohol, drugs or inhibitors. After the change in his lifestyle, there has been a shift in his diets, time management and creative process. By simplifying his life, he can gain extra time to spend on hobbies, art, friends and family instead of getting ready and choosing a different outfit everyday. Individuals should never be defined by their appearance and in choosing to simplify his wardrobe, Brunning reflects on what might define him and what might transpire over the course of a year. Other questions he is reflecting on include: Would my art change? Would life become more of less defined by this exterior image? The More or Less project began April 16th this year and Brunning hopes to inspire others to live a simpler life and to challenge themselves in a way that takes sacrifice and commitment.
